Installing the desktop app

Desktop app installation

The desktop app is a thin wrapper that gives you global keyboard shortcuts, a menu-bar mini-window, and offline drafts. It auto-updates in the background.

macOS

Download the .dmg from your account page. Drag the app icon into Applications. The first launch takes about three seconds.

Windows

Run the .exe installer. Windows SmartScreen may warn that the publisher is unverified — click More info → Run anyway. Our binaries are signed with an EV certificate but Microsoft’s reputation system needs a few thousand installs before it learns to trust new versions.

Linux

We ship .deb, .rpm, and AppImage builds. The AppImage is the simplest option if your distribution isn’t covered.

Verify your installation

Open the app, log in, and press ⌘ K. If you see the search modal, you’re good.
